On top of it there are "well documented rumors" of self-replicating nano-robots building up cybernetic structures going through the entire human body; rumors of each GMO human having a bluetooth interface, videos of "darknet hackers" having access to databases of realtime monitoring of all those humans who took the needle - blood pressure, temperature etc. but who knows maybe also audio/video if the hacker didn't use the console tool and the desktop one instead...
It's not space-aliens who are doing this. These are the combined forces of evil that survived from earlier ages, and have access to lost knowledge. A lot of the lost knowledge is from our direct ancestors; for example people don't know how to cook, garden, change diapers, eat healthy but just a few generations ago they did.
