  • Some tech issues

    Hi admins

I am facing a few smaller issues when using the site.

No Quick Reply: The site will "pretend" that I am logged out or the session is timed out. Clicking on "Go Advanced" is a work-around.

No Image Zoom: Clicking on an image displays the message "you dont have the permission to..." and a darkened background page, and a request for a page refresh.

I hope you can fix this :thup

Did you try logging off and then back on?

Could any of this be the result of changes you made when we were first under attack, but it seemed that we were just having server issues?

By switching things on/off with the https everywhere add-on I found out the following:

          - Everything works fine without SSL (pure http)

          - When deactivating HTTPSEW the main forum page will not show up correctly (on https), I suppose because the browser rejects the mixed content

          - When activating HTTPSEW I encounter the problems I mentioned.

I think the site is automaticaly redirecting all or most requests to http:// where it could (should) redirect to https:// - this might be due because the https://www.chimpout.com is not a valid referer in the site's settings, that I get error messages. The redirections to unencrypted pages were the reason I installed the add-on in the first place. So I would say it is a little setting in the forum software (allow https redirections or something), or the site base address must be set to https://www.chimpout.com.

I noticed that when we went to VPS we got NOT SECURE prefixes on my browser. We will look into the whole https thing, which we probably should have done by now anyway. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

We changed some security settings on cloudflare. Let us know if that made a difference for you.

No, it doesn't realy change anything - except that pictures can now be seen via https! It is a mixed content issue, you can fix it in the forum settings:

https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/...nameurlcontact I would recommand the following:

                1) Change the URL of the forum to https://www.chimpout.com. This should redirect automaticaly to https, when changing pages. All connections will be over https then.

                AND/OR

                2) set "Always use Forum URL base path" to NO. This will remove the mixed content issue. But if you do not change the base URL to https, it will always jump back to http.

                I think this should work!

Edit: step 1) should be resolving the issue, 2) is meaningless except you have multiple sites like chimpout.com and chimp-out.com that access the same forum.

                  OK I did #1, but not #2.

                  Anything change?

Everything works now: main page, shoutbox, image zoom, edit, quick post EXCEPT the smilies insertion in advanced editor mode: when clicking on "[more]" they open in a new uncrypted window. This seems to be another "mixed content" issue. Maybe the "smiley plugin" has it's own settings to be modified? hmmm...

Ok here is the "manual" entry about switching to https: https://forum.vbulletin.com/articles...forum-to-https I noticed that in the page's source there is a script variable that is still set to http in line 57
                      Code:
                      var AJAXBASEURL = "https://www.chimpout.com/";
I think you have to check close to the bottom of the preferences for YUI and if there is another HTTP you change it to HTTPS: https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/...ndoptimization

I changed the second "http" to "https". This version of VBulletin does not have the YUI info on that page.Since I made the first change of URL a few hours ago, I noticed that I am having problems with REPLY TO THREAD features. Smilies are gone, video embedding gone, font change gone, everything is missing. Going ADVANCED doesn't change it.I may have to put things back the way they were. We are upgrading to the latest VB in about a week from now. That should fix all problems. But in the meantime, did changing the second https make a difference for you?

I had to put everything back the way it was. Nothing was working for me.

We will upgrade in a few days, which should take care of everything. If not, VBulletin will walk us through any issues.
