Mpls. man charged in '95 gang murder
Over a decade after a fatal shooting in the 3600 block of Columbus Avenue South in Minneapolis, a suspect has been charged.
Thirty-two-year-old Maurice Jabbar White, of Minneapolis, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder Wednesday for the April 8, 1995 incident.
According to officials, William Earl Crumble was found shot in the torso lying outside his residence. He later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
According to the criminal complaint, Crumble had been at a party, and upon trying to leave, he was attacked by several men. Witnesses were unable to identify the exact shooter. Authorities said Crumble had been a gang member, and White belonged to a rival gang.
It wasn’t until 2008, when White was being investigated for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, that police connected him to the 13-year-old shooting case. White admitted to the homicide during a recent interview with police.
"I had a gun in my pocket…and I shot William Crumble. I shot William Crumble somewhere in his lower back," White told officers.
He is currently in federal custody. If convicted, White faces up to 40 years in prison for each murder count.
