"I am not now nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the races which I believe will for ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality." Abraham Lincoln, Sept. 18, 1858, at Charleston, Illinois.
NICE THREAD.
A10 Thunderbolt all the way baby.
Honorable mentions the F14 Tomcat. Su35/37, F15. & of course the F22 Raptor for current KNOWN advanced flight tech.
Harrier of course for classical originality.
Sr71 Blackbird cannot be denied. Makes you wonder what they have now!? unfortunately its called a satellite.

How about the F-111 in all its variants? Yes, I know it's proof that given enough time, effort, and money you can make anything fly, but it is still a most impressive airplane. The loudest on takeoff I've ever heard.F-111F.png

As a commercial helicopter pilot, I'm not really into fixed wing craft. However, I have always had a love for both the A-10 Warthog and the Rutan Long-EZ.

OK, it's not a military aircraft but I still dig it.
BUT...I prefer machines that can fly backwards and sideways, 6 feet above the ground.
I have to go for the Harrier as my #1 because, you know, I'm EnglishThis plane has served the world well for 41 years in many different variants, but has now passed the torch to those damn Yankees
I guess they know a thing or two about aircraft...

One that specializes in bombing niggers. What plane does that? The B-76 Niggerbomber?
I have learned something today.
It is truly amazing the advancements and sheer volumes of weapons grade aircraft that have come about over the past 100 years. Yet, in terms of civilian (Commercial mostly) the advancements seem to be way behind the military. I mean, it took say 6 hours to fly to England 20 years ago. And today, that time has not changed much.
Why is it that commercial aircraft lag so far behind in terms of advancement? After the crash of the Concorde, which, as far as I know, was the only commercial plane that could actually reduce flight time,it was scuttled. Why no need for speed on Southwest?
I saw something the other day. They dropped an unmanned aircraft (Spider something?) out of a cargo plane. It hit Mach 5.3 at 60,000 feet. At that speed, it would reach England in well under 2 HOURS.
Just doesn't make sense that Boeing i.e. produces such advancements in the military division, but seems disinterested in the commercial division.
My wonderful Dad taught me a valuable lesson as a young man.
"Son", he said, "I am not prejudiced".
"I believe every white person should own one"
Cost and reliability are your answers, Shoogafoot. The ratio of military vs commercial planes that a manufacturer like Boeing produces is probably on the scale of 1:10, if not even lower. I could probably give hard numbers through extensive research but I'm lazy today. It is suffice to say the lion's share of R&D involving passenger aircraft today involves redundant controls, over-engineered airframes, and engines that will handle anything you throw at them.
