I watched that recent Detoilet documentary and there were this white couple from somewhere, I can't remember now. Not sure what her job was but the Husband/Boyfriend was an artist and they'd moved to toilet because it was so affordable and cost pretty much nothing, it was desolate all around them apart from their home. I recently followed a long thread on a motorcycle forum where a guy rode his Ducati coast to coast and back again. He went to Detroit (nearly got murdered) and rode to some of the abandoned areas. The pictures were amazing, like a scene from some apocalyptic film: block upon block upon block of total desolation, where he was literally the only living thing in sight or earshot.

I find the idea that people can buy acres of housing and turn it into cheap farming land just incredible! - Has this happened in any other First World country, ever?
