    Default Solid State Drive Optimization

My home computer is an all in one HP Touchsmart, about 2 years old. I don't really use it, I am 99% iPad, but my wife and kids still use it a lot. It seemed like it was getting a bit tired, long time to boot up and the hour glass spinning a lot longer than usual. Other than that, it's a nice looking PC that is very compact, just one cord to plug it in. I opened up the back and replaced the 4 GB memory with 8 Gb for about $35, and than I bought a Corsair 180 GB Solid State drive for $120. That computer is so fucking fast now its incredible. From a powerup when it is completely off throu the boot up, to where the hourglass stops spinning is about 7 seconds! For about $150 and a few hours that computer should at least last 3 more years.

Just wondering what anyone else's experience is with SSD. Corsair says their drives are just plug-n-play, but I other SSd manufacturers include a SSD optimization program. There are also aftermarket programs, do I need one or should I not worry about it.

The Tuskegee Experiment was on 399 niggers in the late stages of syphilis. These niggers were never told what disease they were suffering from, and their doctors had no intention of curing them of syphilis at all. The data for the experiment was to be collected from autopsies of the niggers, and they were thus deliberately left to degenerate. “We have no further interest in these niggers until they die", said one of the doctors.

Sounds like dem keeeds be gettins spyware or viruses. SSDs are way to expansive to be worth dem duckets righ na..

Good choice. The massive speed gain comes from the SSD, not from the RAM. Reading large amounts of data strewn all over the platters is a non-issue with SSDs, that's why your old drive booted like a silverback on crutches and the new one runs like a young buck from the police.

"Optimizing" is done to boost performance / lifespan. If you're satisfied with the speed and your system boots in 7 seconds, chances are you don't need it. Older systems (Win XP) need to be tweaked quite a lot to run SSDs properly, but Windows 7 and 8 are prepared and will handle them just fine.

It's windows 7, everything works just fine, I just wasn't sure if I should buy a tweaking software.

Most of those "tweeking softwares" are garbage or do what you can do on your own.

Just remember, defrag, disk cleanup and run Microsoft Security Essentials once a week or so and you should be fine.

NO DEFRAG on a Solid State Drive!!! It's useless and performs additional disk writes (which shortens the lifespan).

That's fine. Let Windows 7 handle the drive.

There is absolutely, positively NO WAY to "tweak" or "optimize" an SSD other than formatting to another file-system type (ntfs, exFAT, etc.) which is negligible and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, any sort of defragging will only cause the lifespan of the drive to decrease. Any software that offers to optimize SSD is 100% bullshit (unless it offers to format the drive, but you can do that for free so...........)

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, I don't know how I missed the fact he was using a SSD. I haven't even been drinking....yet... Good catch CD.

    Never defrag an SSD!
And also go to computer, right click on the SSD and UNCHECK "Allow files on this drive to have content indexed in addition to file protection."
That will put less wear and tear on the drive.
