I lived for years in University City. We all knew as an unwritten rule - you never, ever crossed Delmar Boulevard to the north. Ever. That was Mogadishu West and blacker than a fresh 8 ball straight off the factory line. I dated a girl (YT, of course) who lived to the north of Delmar by one block and, when I stayed at her place, we'd hear gunshots a couple times a month. But for the fact that she used her mouth like a Hoover vacuum cleaner, I would have ditched that arrangement many months before.
