Len Bias – Basketball Player, Cocaine Overdose



Leonard Kevin aka "Len" Bias (November 18, 1963 – June 19, 1986) was a first team All-American college basketball forward at the University of Maryland. He was selected by the Boston Celtics as the second overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft on June 17, but then died just two days later from cardiac arrhythmia caused by a cocaine overdose. He was considered by many sportswriters to be one of the greatest players not playing at the professional level.

Subsequently, on December 5, 1990, Bias' younger brother, James Stanley "Jay" Bias III, who was also a promising young basketball player, was shot to death at age 20 following a dispute in the parking lot of a Hyattsville, MD shopping mall located just a few miles from the University of Maryland. Two unidentified gunmen fired several times into the vehicle Jay and two friends were in, and Jay was struck twice in the back. He was pronounced dead at the same hospital where Len Bias had died, and was buried next to him at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

Russell Jones (aka Ol' Dirty Bastard) - Drug Overdose

Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 —- November 13, 2004) was an American rapper and occasional producer, who went by the stage name Ol' Dirty Bastard or simply ODB. He was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, a Hip-Hop group primarily from Staten Island, New York that first rose to mainstream prominence with their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).

1998 - Pled quilty to assaulting wife Icelene Jones, and was shot during a home invasion robbery at girlfriend's house. Arrested for shoplifting a pair of shoes from a Virginia Beach store. 1999 - Arrested for Driving Without a License and beig a convicted felon wearing a bullet-proof vest while in California, and racked up charges of drug possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and traffic offenses back in New York

2000 - Escapes from court-ordered drug rehab center and is spotted and arrested outside a McDonalds in Philadelphia signing autographs. Subsequently extradited to New York and sentenced to 2 - 4 years incarceration

Perhaps Jone's most visible media appearance centered around his storming onstage as Shawn Colvin was about to accept the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1998.
