Man on bail in homicide case arrested in Myrtle Beach for assault




An 18-year-old Myrtle Beach man, who was wanted for an assault that occurred in the city last week, has turned himself into police, according to police records.

Warrants for the arrest of Kendrix Deon Corbitt were issued Friday in connection with the assault of a 56-year-old man a week ago on Vereen Avenue, police said.

Corbitt was taken into police custody Wednesday at the Myrtle Beach Police Department. He is jailed pending a bond hearing, according to records.

HOUSTON - Two men have been charged in the shooting death of a United Arab Emirates Armed Forces captain. The soldier was with his ailing father when they were ambushed by robbery suspects.

Detone Lewayne Price, 18, and Corey Trevon Perry were both charged with capital murder in the death of Capt. Salim Saif Al Mazroui, but only Price is in police custody. Price is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Devin Taylor, 21, was arraigned Wednesday in the shooting death of 3-year-old Aarie Berry in Detroit.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee says community volunteers, tipsters and uniformed officers joined forces to find the man accused of shooting 3-year-old Aarie Berry one month ago.

And they didn't have to look far: He lived next door.

Devin Taylor, 21, was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on charges of first-degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder, discharge of a firearm in a building and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Modesto man guilty of woman's murder 35 years ago

After less than 90 minutes of deliberation, a jury on Wednesday afternoon convicted a Modesto man of murder in the death of an 81-year-old woman beaten and raped inside her west Modesto home 35 years ago.

Buddy Ray Gary, 60, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Florence Millard. He was arrested in early 2009 after a state Department of Justice criminalist found semen in a rug from Millard's home that matched a DNA sample from Gary.

Columbus crime: Police say fight about sex led to fatal shooting

Police say two friends were fighting over repulsed sexual advances when 30-year-old DeWayne Montrell Williams pointed a gun at Keyonna Monte Chapple’s head and fired a fatal shot early Monday.

Williams admitted in a videotaped interview that he shot the 30-year-old Chapple as the pair walked along Fisk Avenue around 4:40 a.m. In Columbus Recorder’s Court Wednesday, Williams pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property

Man accused of killing, dismembering girlfriend waives hearing

A Bethlehem man accused of killing his girlfriend and dismembering her body in June gave up his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday morning.

William J. Ward, 45, appeared before District Judge David J. Howells Jr. for only a few minutes to sign the paperwork that sent his case to Lehigh County Court.

From the moment sheriff's deputies brought Ward into the courtroom, sobs from the relatives of Trisha Sadler filled the courtroom. They did not wish to speak after the hearing.

Kalebu gets life without parole in South Park murder-rape

SEATTLE - A man who raped and stabbed a lesbian couple during a bloody attack in Seattle two summers ago was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole Friday in King County Superior Court.

Isaiah Kalebu, 25, was convicted last month of aggravated first-degree murder, felony murder and attempted murder in the grisly killing following a three-week trial.

A man accused of murdering a woman in a dispute about money in Hazleton last year asked to exclude statements he made to police, a DNA sample and items found in a search of his apartment from his trial in Luzerne County Court.

Benjamin T. Westbrooks, through his attorneys, Allyson Kacmarski and John Pike, filed the motions Tuesday. Westbrooks is accused of homicide in the death of Alicia Weaver, whom police said was seized outside a nail salon on North Wyoming Street on Nov. 13, 2010 and later found shot to death on a coal road in Foster Township.

Suspect indicted in 2009 Lakeland murder

LAKELAND - The mystery surrounding the death of a woman found in downtown Lakeland in 2009 appears to be solved.

A grand jury in Polk County just indicted Reginald Riggins on murder charges in the death of 34-year-old Shawn Hazel Turk in April of 2009.

Riggins is also accused of killing a woman in Ft. Myers. Lakeland police say they got a tip that led to Riggins, and they say they have now tied him to Turk's death.
