Man charged with murder in Fayetteville woman's disappearance



Saint Pauls, N.C. — Police charged a man Tuesday evening in connection with a 24-year-old Fayetteville woman's disappearance, after authorities found a set of human remains in Robeson County.

Investigators believe the remains are those of Erica Cherie Gainey, who was last seen June 28 leaving her home with 44-year-old Terry Dale Robinson.

Stocking Strangler case: District Attorney says Carlton Gary’s case for DNA test in rape is weak, moot




Authorities need not DNA-test stained clothing worn by a woman brutally beaten and raped in a 1977 assault linked to the seven Stocking Stranglings, because convicted strangler Carlton Gary’s defense attorneys can’t prove her assailant left the stains, prosecutors argue in their latest filing.

Without evidence that the man who attacked 64-year-old Gertrude Miller on Sept. 11, 1977, in her 2703 Hood St. home left semen or other bodily fluids on the clothes Miller wore to St. Francis Hospital, the test fails the legal standard for post-conviction DNA testing, prosecutors say.

Murder re-trial likely in 2008 Rock Hill killing

One of two men prosecutors believe broke into a Rock Hill man’s home and then stabbed him more than 30 times will be re-tried for murder.

A jury found 21-year-old Christopher Mareem Poage guilty of burglary, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy Wednesday night, said 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett said. After the trial in York County, the jury returned a verdict after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

New Orleans police on Thursday arrested a man they say is responsible for a June murder in Central City.

Wilbert Clark, 24, was booked into Central Lockup on a charge of second-degree murder, police said.

Investigators allege Clark shot Van Batiste just after midnight June 27 in the 2200 block of Harmony Street. Doctors pronounced Batiste dead at a local hospital a short time after the shooting.

Govt: Watson said he 'bumped into' ladies at CTA

Teen charged in CTA murder, iPhone robbery


August 11, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Prince Watson, 17, who is accused of pushing a CTA passenger to her death during an iPhone robbery, admitted he 'bumped into two ladies who were in his way,' prosecutors said Thursday. Sally Katona-King, 68, died from her fall.


Prince Watson, 17, is charged with murder in the death of Sally Katona-King on March 28. Prosecutors said Watson pushed Katona-King down the stairs at the CTA's Fullerton stop while he fled a robbery.

Katona-King, 68, suffered multiple ribs, a fractured skull and bleeding in her brain. She died the next day.

No plea means a 40-year-old murder case slated to go before a jury later this fall

GRAND RAPIDS – There was no plea offer for the man who police say fired a gun through a closed door and killed a U.S. Marine private home on leave 40 years ago.

As things stand now, 61-year-old Richard Frank Thomas will go before a jury which will decide if he murdered 21-year-old Elijah “Todd” Butler on Oct. 24, 1971.

Billy Morris Cardwell, 32, was charged with murder on Wednesday, Aug. 10, for the July 14 killing of Albert Lee Sanford Jr., 33.
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- U.S. Marshals arrested a man in Birmingham for the killing of a Huntsville man last month, police said.

Billy Morris Cardwell, 32, of Huntsville, was arrested Wednesday at a relative's home for the July 14 shooting of Albert Lee Sanford Jr.,

Atascadero man pleads no contest in 3-month-old son's death



A 27-year-old Atascadero man pleaded no contest today to second-degree murder in the death of his 3-month-old boy in 2009, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Kelly Dewayne Lavinge entered the plea before Judge Michael Duffy this morning.

Imprisoned Metairie man indicted with killing passenger in East Jefferson homicide

A Metairie man serving time in prison for narcotics convictions was indicted Thursday in an April homicide in which an East Jefferson man was shot in the head while riding as a passenger in a car.

Rynell A. Lee, 21, is charged with second-degree murder in the April 12 death of Roy Cains, 22, of Metairie. Lee would spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole if convicted of the charge
