Faculty Saddened by Soldier, Girlfriend's Shooting Death

COLUMBUS -- A day before 18-year-old Leigh Belyn’s boyfriend was to deploy for U.S. Army service in Afghanistan, he killed her.




Police say Juvon Williams, 19, shot and killed Belyn Thursday night on Medalist Drive, put her body into a green car and then drove Belyn’s body to South Spring Road in Westerville.

Williams then led police on a chase to Chillmark and Spectacle drives, where police used the PIT maneuver to stop his car. Witnesses say Williams exited the car and turned his gun five Columbus Division of Police officers, who returned fire and killed him about 3 a.m. Friday.

Warrant issued in death of Homewood boy

Gregory Dalton - a person of interest in the shootingPittsburgh Police have secured an arrest warrant for a missing 18-year-old man in connection to the shooting death of a 3-year-old Homewood boy on Tuesday.

Gregory Dalton was apparently in a bedroom of a Tioga Street apartment with 3-year-old Zy'Miere Sewell when the boy suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses told police Mr. Dalton fleed with the gun after the shooting.

Autopsy finds baby died of blunt head trauma

An autopsy Thursday determined a 3-month-old girl died Tuesday of blunt head trauma one day after her father was charged with harming her Aug. 4 on the Far South Side.

The Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the death.

Ianah Sherrod, 3 months, of 672 E. 133rd St., was injured at 11358 S. Forrest Ave. according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The Thursday autopsy found that Ianah died of blunt head trauma and child abuse and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police seek relative in double-homicide

Prince George's County Police are seeking the public's help in finding a relative of the mother and son who were found dead in Fort Washington last week.

Thirty-four-year-old Quindell Mercer is a person of interest in the investigation into shooting deaths of 56-year-old Patricia Mercer Harris and Frank Lamar Harris Jr., 20, police said. The mother and son were found slain at their home early Thursday morning.

Detroit man charged with shooting and killing 3-year-old Aarie Berry

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A 21-year-old from Detroit has been charged in the fatal shooting of Aarie Berry, a 3-year-old who was killed on July 10.

Devin Lamar Taylor was arraigned Wednesday on homicide charges in 36th District Court.

Pittsburgh man to be sentenced for 1982 rape, murder in Cleveland

Richard Wilson, 58, of Pittsburgh: Pleaded guilty to aggravated murder. Sentencing scheduled for Wednesday. Wilson raped and killed 42-year-old Maryann Finegan in 1982 and raped and tried to kill a 38-year-old woman. He faces a maximum of 30 years to life in prison.

Tale of recurring New Orleans murder suspect ends in death on the street

There in the 3500 block of Hamburg Street lay Garelle Smith, 29, dead of gunshot wounds to his head and chest.

During the past decade, Smith bedeviled the NOPD like perhaps no other accused criminal. Time and again, prosecutors and police tied him to violent crimes, locked him up and prepared a case, only for it to fall apart.

Police alleged in 2003 he was paid $10,000 to fatally shoot renowned local rapper Soulja Slim, born James Tapp. Witnesses wouldn't come forward, and the case was dropped.
