The free NNTP servers suck, if you want Usenet in all its glory then you have to pay. I use Unlimited Newshosting http://www.newshosting.com/en/index.php? for $15/mo I download everything I need. Giganews is widely regarded as the king of Usenet providers, but they cost a bit more.
