COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia's longest serving councilman has reported to federal prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion in 2010.

E. W. Cromartie II reported Wednesday to a medium security facility that houses male inmates in Williamsburg County.

Cromartie pleaded guilty in April of 2010 (?) to one count of income tax evasion and two counts of aggravated structuring (Racketeering).

The 65-year-old was Columbia's longest-serving city councilman before admitting to failing to pay more than $25,000 in federal income taxes. Cromartie also said he made more than $200,000 in cash deposits and withdrawals just below the IRS minimums for transaction reporting rules.

He was fined $58,075.86 and will have to pay $1,600 a month towards this restitution starting 60 days after his release from prison. He will also be under supervised release for three years after his prison sentence ends.

The former councilman's release date is listed as December 9, 2011.
