2 Arrested For Robberies Targeting Asian Business Owners
    October 19, 2010 9:20 AM

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The FBI says its made two arrests in a series of home invasions that have targeted Asian business owners in recent weeks.

Court documents indicate Tyree Mansell and Terrance Downing were arrested Friday in Philadelphia without incident. The suspects, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by federal prosecutors, targeted the owners because they “believed that Asian business owners kept a lot of cash from the business in their home instead of securing it in a bank.”

For now, the two suspects are only charged with one home invasion in Havertown, Delaware County, on August 8th. But sources indicate additional charges are expected involving similar crimes in Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties.

At least two other suspooks, according to court documents, are also under investigation.

FBI IDs suspect in $200,000 home invasion robbery
    Inquirer Staff Report

A federal arrest warrant has been issued for a 26-year-old man wanted in one of a series of home invasion robberies targeting Asian business owners, the FBI said today.

Nyfis P. Toppings was identified by two alleged accomplices who are already in custody, according to a criminal complaint accompanying the warrant.

He is charged in the complaint with violation of the federal Hobbs Act for allegedly taking part in the Aug. 8 armed robbery in the Havertown home of the family that owns an Upper Darby beverage distribution firm.

The criminal complaint said Toppings, along with Terrance Downing and Tyree Mansell, stole about $200,000 from a bedroom safe at the home after threating the occupants with firearms.

The FBI and Philadelphia police arrested Downing and Mansell last month after agents, acting on a tip, saw the pair break into one home in Philadelphia and attempt to enter another.

The investigation by the FBI's Hobbs Act Robbery Task Force is part of the larger Cobbs Creek Initiative to address armed home invasion robberies targeting Asian-American business owners in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, the FBI said.

Toppings, who uses the nickname "Feese," is described as a black male, 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He also has tattoos on his right forearm.
