Child Killed With Sneaker

A Memphis man has been charged with beating a child to death using a basketball sneaker.

According to an affidavit, Calvin Jones told police he was babysitting the 2-year-old girl when she defecated on herself.

Jones says he used "a basketball shoe" and the back of his hand to hit her several times.

Jones is charged with First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse.

The child's mother, Anisha Alford, is charged with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse.

Alford admitted her daughter was spitting up, was extremely cold and complained of being sick but she took no action.

Alford told police she and Jones decided not to seek medical treatment and found the child dead Saturday morning.

Police records do not indicate whether Alford was aware of the beating.
