Lucie Sinkow was a wonderful, beautiful woman who had a bubbly personality and dreamed of becoming a chef or beautician, her father said.

But Sinkow's drug addiction and association with the wrong people led to her death in July, her father, Barry Sinkow, said. He was still mourning Friday, a day after police arrested a suspect in her strangulation death. Stab wounds also contributed to her death, investigators found.

"She grew up with a good father and a good mother. And drugs will do this to you," Sinkow, 81, said. "I just wish that she wouldn't have hung out with those people. She would have been OK."

Demetrius White, 27, of Miami, was arrested on Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Lucie Sinkow, 30. On Friday, White was ordered held without bail at Broward Main Jail.

White's motive was his suspicion that Sinkow drugged him and stole drugs and about $1,500 in cash from him, an arrest report said. Sinkow's decomposing body was found July 29 inside a cottage-style structure in the backyard of a house in the 1100 block of Northeast First Avenue, the report said.

Sinkow was born July 4, 1979, in Monte Carlo, in the French Riviera, her father said. She lived in Naples, Fla., as a teen, and spent time in her mother's tearoom, where she was inspired to become a chef. In her 20s, however, she decided to attend beauty school.

But Sinkow got hooked on drugs in her 20s, her father said. Her family tried to intervene, sending her to rehabilitation centers over the years in Delray Beach and Colorado Springs, Colo.

Saying she was better, she returned to Broward County and moved in with her father last year. She left soon after.

Police got closer to labeling White as a slaying suspect on Jan. 11, when one of White's friends, Benjamin Whitfield, spoke with detectives. The police interview occurred because Whitfield contacted officers from jail and wrote a letter to Sinkow's father, saying he had information about who killed Sinkow, the report said.

Whitfield, who wasn't jailed when Sinkow was killed, told police that White showed up at his home last year with blood on him. White said that he "got" the woman who robbed him and asked to use Whitfield's shower, the report said.

Whitfield said White had previously described how a woman robbed him by leading him behind a house, drugging him and stealing his money, heroin and oxycodone, the report said.

Whitfield told police that the woman White knew was "tricking," a street term for prostitution, near Sunrise Boulevard and Andrews Avenue, the report said.

Police also spoke with one of Sinkow's friends who said White was Sinkow's prostitution customer, and that the friend saw the pair together several times.

White visited the Police Department and spoke with officers May 6, after police obtained a warrant to search his car. The report didn't describe what he told police.

White returned to the station Thursday. He denied knowing Sinkow, "having ever been with her" or frequenting Fort Lauderdale, the report said. Police arrested him soon after.

Police on Friday also released an arrest report for another man, Tyson Brinson, 29. He was charged with tampering with a witness and taken into custody on Aug. 3, 2009. He allegedly threatened someone associated with the case.
