BALTIMORE --
Police are investigating a case in which a dog was attacked with a machete.
Officers said a north Baltimore resident took the dog to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter late Tuesday.
Doctors said the dog had suffered slash wounds to the cheeks, nose and right eye.
Police said the attack happened in the 3000 block of Wylie Avenue. Investigators said the shepherd-pit bull mix was attacked by a neighbor with a history of mental illness.
The dog is named Okashia and was moved to an emergency clinic in Catonsville.
Vets said her prognosis is unclear, but donations from the BARCS Franky Fund are covering her care.
Police said the person who attacked Okashia has being taken-in for a psychiatric evaluation. Charges are pending, police said.
