White House drops "In the year of our lord" to not offend Jewish proclamation

Please, keep discussions civil. If this thread goes into fail mode, then by all means mods lock it or delete it. The purpose is to convey the sense of pandering in refusing to acknowledge "Anno Domini (In the year of our Lord....as in AD)" that, you know, designates this to be the year 2010. Why not just go to year zero of the reign of Zero?

The White House, in the midst of an intense charm offensive aimed at the Jewish and pro-Israel communities, has dropped an archaic phrase that has, in the past, rankled Jewish groups.

The use of the proclamation boilerplate "in the year of our Lord" for a celebration of Jewish Heritage Month had struck a slightly off-key note for Jewish groups in Obama's last proclamation, as in those of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

This year, the phrase has been replaced by the simple phrase, "in the year two thousand ten.”

Steven Freeman, an official at the Anti-Defamation League, tells Andrew Silow-Carroll that "we see it as a welcome, sensitive, and attentive gesture," though it doesn't seem ever to have been a major bone of contention.

And regardless of the phrase employed, the year is still calculated from the birth of Christ, after all.

Haha, Jews are pissed at Obama for his pro-Muslim anti-Israel policy, and he thinks this is going to placate them? The ADL is not representative of the Jewish community, most Jews are ambivalent about its policies. While it might have one day been about fighting anti-semitism, it's clearly overstepped its bounds and is now just another front for the Dems. The ADL supported illegal immigration reform just recently, despite polling which found that a large majority of Jews did not support amnesty or the Democrat led reform. Jews have had enough of Foxman and his shakedown goons. They are a menace to Jews by continually sanctioning policies that the majority of Americans don't want. The number of Jews voting Republican will continue to grow as the Jewish establishment continues to isolate itself from its constituents.
