Fla. inmate tries escape by putting dummy in bed
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police say they foiled a Florida inmate's plan to escape by putting a makeshift dummy in his bed.
Twenty-two-year-old Patrick Jamal Walton allegedly put the dummy in place, then escaped the St. Petersburg Work Release Center at about 3 a.m. Friday.
Guards caught on when the dummy failed to respond to a mandatory roll call. But Walton hadn't made it far. Authorities caught him just outside the facility.
Walton's two-year sentence for dealing in stolen property was set to end next year. Now he faces a felony escape charge, too.
