KENNER, La. – The trial of a woman who is accused of murdering her newborn baby that was supposed to begin today in Jefferson Parish has been pushed back.
The trial is now schedule for July 19 after lawyers filed for a continuance.
Kenner Police said Ciara Craig confessed to throwing her baby into Lake Pontchartrain last year shortly after giving birth.
Authorities said the woman told them she was trying to hide her pregnancy from her parents.
In February, a judge ruled that Craig's confession would be allowed as evidence in the trial after rejecting the defense claims that the woman was coerced into confessing.
