Woman Arrested In Old City Art Gallery Theft

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A Philadelphia woman was arrested following a robbery at an art gallery in Old City.

Renza Sheaff is facing charges of Criminal Trespass, Criminal Conspiracy, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and other related offenses.

Investigators say the 38-year-old was arrested for her involvement in a robbery that occurred inside an art gallery located in the 300 block of Cherry Street Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Sheaff and a male accomplice were allegedly caught searching though an employee's purse at Snyderman Works Gallery.

The owner caught the pair and the male suspect sprayed what is believed to be pepper spray in the owner's face.

Sheaff was caught a few blocks away, but her accomplice was able to escape.

A typewritten sign reading "Forget the dog, beware of the owner" now greets visitors at Snyderman-Works Galleries in Old City.

The gallery's assistant director, Frank Hopson, hung it up on the office door of his 73-year-old boss, Rick Snyderman, who bravely stood up to a pair of thieves on Thursday.

Snyderman told the Daily News that he caught the duo rummaging through an employee's unattended purse, then helped capture one of them by chasing her through the narrow alleys of Old City until she was trapped on a SEPTA bus.

The woman, identified yesterday as Rezna Sheaff, 38, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses, police said.

They are seeking her alleged partner in crime, a black male described as light-skinned, 6 feet tall, early 30s, wearing a denim jacket and blue jeans.

Snyderman said yesterday that he hopes his actions - including preventing a cab with the suspect inside from moving and eluding pepper spray purportedly dispensed by one of the thieves - would send a message.
