Paramedics remove the body of a Bronx man early Monday who was shot dead by police when he wouldn't stop beating his mother with a frying pan.


Police shot and killed a crazed Bronx man as he bashed his "sweet" mother with a frying pan in their home, police said Monday.

The drama unfolded after a sergeant and officer kicked in the apartment door and found the 32-year-old suspect beating his mother late Sunday night. He refused their order to drop the pan and raised it again, ready to slam the 61-year-old woman again, cops said.

That's when the officers opened fire, authorities said.

The uniformed sergeant from the 40th Precinct fired once and a uniformed officer from the same command fired five times, killing the suspect.

His mother was in critical condition at Lincoln Medical Center and may have suffered brain damage, sources said.

She had major head injuries, including a fractured skill, plus a broken left shin and a compound left arm fracture that bone sticking out of her skin.

The shooting happened at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in the mother's second-floor apartment at 3055 Third Ave.

It was not clear what sparked the violence, but a high-ranking police official said the suspect "has a history of psychiatric issues" and neighbors say he is menacing, with a big build and dour disposition.
