Police were searching Tuesday night for a group of teens and young men who beat two people and threw a landscaping brick through a car windshield last weekend in the Central District.
The first incident happened about 11:55 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Spring Street. A man said he left his residence and saw six to eight suspects nearby. As he approached the intersection of 15th Avenue and East Union Street, the group ran and pushed him to the ground.
One of the suspects grabbed at his backpack after the victim hit his head on the concrete. The attackers fled as he yelled for help. The victim called police from the 1500 block of East Madison Street.
The suspects were described as niggers
ages 16 to 20, wearing dark raincoats with hoods. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
About 10 minutes later, officers were called to the 1900 block of East Marion Street, where a woman had "a huge bump on her forehead and about a one inch cut in the middle of it with blood pouring down her face," according to a police report.
The woman was exiting her vehicle to go inside her residence when a group of four or five males approached, with one carrying a broomstick.
"The suspect took a swings and hit her in the head with the broom," according to the report. "He then ran eastbound on (East Marion Street) as his friends followed on the other side of the road."
The woman described the main suspect as a nigger
in his teens, 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds with a black rain jacket.
Police contained the area and brought a police dog to try and track the group. The effort lasted about 15 minutes before the police dog lost the scene. Police collected the broom as evidence and took photographs of the woman's injuries.
At about 12:15 a.m. a woman told police she heard male voices in the alley near her home and saw the group throw a brick into the windshield of a yellow four-door sedan in the parking lot in the 2100 block of East Jefferson Street.
