A Georgetown County Correctional Officer was fired for allegations of having a sexual relationship with inmates.

According to a press release, Sheriff A. Lane Cribb requested that SLED assist in the investigation December 2009 after 26-year-old Bevlin Lee Sherrill was terminated for a letter that was discovered by Georgetown County Detention Center officials from Sherrill to a female inmate.

The discovery of the letter provided evidence of a relationship and Sheriff Cribb requested SLED’s assistance because he knew there was more involved.

Prior to the discovery of the letter, detention center officials received allegations of a possible relationship.

Sherrill is charged with misconduct in office.

He served with the Georgetown County Detention Center for 7 months as a correctional officer.
