I'm just throwing this question out there to take your pulse on the subject.

Do modern video games suck?

I really find myself getting annoyed and getting bored quickly with the games that have hit the market in the past 3 or so years.

Most of the games I buy seem like a clone of a clone of a clone of a Call of Duty clone.

It's like if you've played one modern shooter, you've played them all.

What ever happened to games like Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, Blood, and Wolfenstein?

Those games were somewhat innovative for their time, and, although the shooting element was awesome in those games, the atmosphere was equally as important, like being on an inescapable base on Mars, fighting off hordes of ugly, nasty sounding demons, all while listening to the best metal tracks of the time.

Those games didn't have weapon attachments, perks, or awesome graphics, but most people who played them can agree that they provided endless hours of fun, even with the lack of internet gaming of the time.

Nowadays it seems like every game is obsessed with the same things, and they all happen to be aspects of CoD(weapon attachments, perks, class setup, auto aim, kill/death ratio).

What are your thoughts on this?

Also, how about the skill and difficulty aspects of video games.

I remember the good old days of Halo 1, where the pistol was God because 3 shots to the head would kill an enemy in multiplayer, but mastering that heads-shotting ability was a never ending challenge, and only people who really worked hard at it got good enough to be considered "pro".

Nowadays, with games like Halo 4, it seems like the entire game revolves around who gets to the vehicles/power weapons first, rather than who's better at making accurate shots while strafing.

Look at CoD4 vs MW2.

CoD4 had a very basic perk and attachment system, and overall, was a pretty decent game that took some time to master.

MW2 added so many insane perks(commando, danger close, one man army), overpowered weapons(shotguns as secondaries, essentially no recoil guns), and ridiculous kill streaks(chopper gunner) and a few months after release, the game became a huge camp fest because every time someone moved from behind cover, they were instantly killed by one of the previously mentioned overpowered items.

What are your thoughts on modern competitive gaming?

In Big Game Hunter, the mountain lion kept killing me. I got so mad I cried. That thing was hard, even with the use of adrenaline!

I posted about this before, but I managed to watch a walkthrough of it. Wanted to see it for what it was.

Holy Jeez, I don't think I would want to waste money on it. The series was supposed to end with MGS4, but no...they had to keep making more and more games. Just watching it, it seems more like God of War with Deus Ex put in there (my apologies to Deus Ex. JC Denton is Jesus!)

There are so many cheesy villains in this game. Not to mention they all look like fruitcakes; not aggressive or masculine whatsoever. They keep repeating things we already know about from the first and fourth games (war economy, technology, etc) and the common theme is: world peace is good. Let's unite everyone and protect the weak!

Yet the weak minded people in this game don't DESERVE to be protected, same in real life. People have to prove their worth. I'm surprised the world in this game is still standing with this logic. Oh, and by the way, Raiden since the second game is and always will be a pussy. He looks like some 1980's disco dancer, and the heels on his feet, realistically, would snap his ankles like graham crackers. He's no Gray Fox, that's for sure. Compared to Gray Fox, Raiden bitches and moans like a woman on menopause and can't stop saying BAAAAAAAAAAW I SURVIVED A NIGGER WAR, BAAAW.

Most of you might know this, but Raiden was put in there for fanservice. It worked. He was always a terrible character and MGS2 shouldn't have existed. After MGS4 they pushed the multi-culti magic nigger stuff to the max, complete with terrible characters, villains, and other stuff that do not belong in the MGS world. It's like...Sonic. Sonic with God of War. Hack 'n' slash and running around like a groundhog. Non-masculine characters and villains we don't care about. Hell, it'd be awesome if it was a Metal Gear fight to the death. REX vs RAY all the way.

But no. Saw it, and it might serve for a while, but definitely not replay value. I truly wish Raiden was stomped on by REX and not Gray Fox. Fox was a badass and a man. The other guy? Japanese bishie who belongs in Kingdom Hearts. It's just a mess. Fun perhaps, but I'd rather play something worth playing. It's safe to say MGS has jumped the shark and they're not trying anymore.

Anyone else with input?

I'd love an RTS where you have to get the raw materials, process them and then build something. Also, prices of all things go up and down as players either buy or sell. Anyone know of something like that? I know EVE has a model like that... but I'd like to play an RTS :) .

I *heart* vast faceless armies that are slaughtering each other on the battlefields.
