One of three youths charged in the Oct. 15, 2008, slaying of a night manager at Rib Rack restaurant in Lathrup Village was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with no chance of parole, a staff attorney for Circuit Judge Leo Bowman said. Catherine Blain, 21, died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Deandre Sturges, 20, of Beverly Hills was found guilty of first-degree murder Sept. 8. Bowman sealed the verdict to avoid tainting juries in the trials of Sturges' codefendant Jerome Hamilton, then unsealed the verdict Dec. 21.
A third man, Brandon Davis, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob, and is expected to be sentenced to 11 to 18 years Jan. 26, the attorney said. Davis was allowed to plead to the lesser charge for his testimony against Sturges and Hamilton.
