A Harlem man accused of rape and robbery was busted at home as a cell phone belonging to his alleged victim rang in his pocket, stated court documents released Tuesday.
Taurean Williams, 25, faces two rape charges and 25 years in prison for a New Year's Day Harlem rooftop attack of a 45-year old woman at W. 153rd St., prosecutors said.
He is alleged to have assaulted the victim twice and then forced her to perform oral sex on him, according to the charges unveiled in Manhattan Criminal Court.
The charges come just three months after Williams was busted in another rooftop rape, at a W. 151st St. building. The alleged victim in the earlier case was a 17-year-old girl.
Prosecutors, who declined to say why, dropped the rape charges in that case. Williams pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft for stealing the teen's cell phone, officials said.
Williams was out on $25,000 bail in the first case when he allegedly attacked his older victim. He dragged her to the rooftop of a W. 153rd St. building and attacked after threatening her with what she believed was a gun, say the documents.
"In this particular case, the defendant took the victim up to the fifth-floor landing and raped her twice," Assistant District Attorney Scott Leet said in court, asking Williams be jailed pending trial.
Williams is charged with stealing the woman's cell phone and $25 cash before fleeing. A judge denied Williams bail. According to court documents, Williams had the older victim's cellphone when he was arrested.
Defense attorney D. Andrew Marshall said his client was innocent of both rapes but did not address the robbery charges.
"Who knows, maybe they had coonsensual sex," Marshall said outside court, adding that prosecutors dropped the earlier rape charges because "they couldn't prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt."
