Well, the title says it all. I know the book won the Pulitzer prize a few years ago, and I've heard it's good. I also know that it's one of Orca Winfrey's book club selections. I'm next in line at the local library to check it out...I should have it in a week. Is it worth a read?

never read anything by him, I've been assured I'd like his stuff
I'm not much of a reader these days, but when I read "No Country for Old Men," I couldn't put it down. I ended up reading it all in one sitting.

If you want to check out a great book that has been largely forgotten, check out "Manhattan Transfer" by dos Passos. Probably get it for less than two bucks with shipping on half.com.

I'll check my local library for that one as well!

Is it worth a read?

A post-apocalypse downer. No happy ending, just one depressing encounter after another, with absurdly "profound" dialogue throughout. It's one of those liberal doomsday fantasies designed to frighten you into changing the present to avoid a dim and dismal future.

Ho-hum.

It wasn't his best but it was worth reading. It's reminiscent of Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea" in so much it consists only of short, simple words. It does make you think: what would I do in such a situation.

McCarthy's best book IMO is Blood Meridian, a must read.

Just finished it. Wow, I thought it was a GREAT book. I can't wait for the movie to come out...and yes, "The Road" is about to hit the big screen. It's in post-production and due to hit the theaters in November. Viggo Mortensen is "The Man" and Kodi Smit-McPhee(sp?) is "the boy." "The thief" is being played by a nigger!
