Felon-turned-community activist Steve Nolan won national acclaim for his anti-gang initiatives but now is locked up in prison after his conviction for trying to lure a 16-year-old girl into his vehicle. He had this mural painted in his party store, Taste of Louisiana, as a tribute to his late brother, Frank.Steve Nolan's life was very different a year ago.
Last summer, the former street hustler and felon-turned-community activist received national attention for his work to stop violence between rival street gangs on the city's East Side.
He mentored troubled kids who came into his Taste of Louisiana party store on East 79th Street. He also set up GAS (God and Steve) Community Development Corp., a nonprofit that introduced gang members to the construction trade while teaching them conflict-resolution skills and how to dress when looking for a job.
Now the 37-year-old Cleveland man is back in prison.
