Early Roth for sure. He was a cross between Al Jolson and Louis Prima jacked up on testosterone and hair spray. Hot for Teacher is my favorite VH song. Hagar cant hold a candle to Roth's over the top bombasity. Check this out.

Jim Dandy. Roth stole his entire persona and act from the Black Oak Arkansas frontman.
Now that I think about it, you're right. :rock:rock:rock

Sammy Hagar by default. I couldn't stand DLR.

Saw them twice with DLR and twice they sucked with DLR.
Sammy Hagar was always kick ass.
Van Halen NEVER had a No.1 Album until after Sammy joined them.

Jim Dandy was the man...his rendition of Ramblin Gamblin Man kicks ass.
Although early VH is great stuff, my vote goes to Sammy...I was a fan of his long before he joined VH.

Van Hagar fucking ruled!!!
david lee roth is a primping little primadonna FAG!
Now he is like Samson... since his hair fell out he has no strength.
Sammy Hagar will rock on till his last dying breath.
If you don't believe it... go ask him.
He'll make you drink tequila until you fucking barff!
P.S. Anyone remember Montrose circa 1973?
That was some good Sammy there.
Some of you people remember Black Oak Arkansas?
Your as old as me.
Ha! Ha!

DLR. Period.
Running w/the Devil
On Fire
Unchained
Everybody Wants some
and the Cradle will rock
House of Pain
Where have all the good times gone
Secrets
I could care less if they never had a number one album or song during his tenure.
Sammy:
Cabo Wabo
Amsterdam
Black and Blue
Poundcake
gimme a break.
Sammy is technically a better singer, has better range and is undoubtedly more professional then DLR...But all the really faggy VH songs were during his tenure. "Why can't this be love" - gay. "When it's Love" - totally fucking gay. "Dreams" - Okay, but not a VH song. "Feels so good" - WTF was that shit?! Horrible, horrible.
Sammy was better on his own - 'three lock box', "I don't need love", "Buying my way into heaven", "can't get loose." "Bad motor scooter" etc.

For sure DLR.....some good songs off the top of my head are....Panama, Hot for Teacher, I'll Wait, Running With The Devil
Not the biggest VH fan but they for sure did some good songs. I don't really care for the Sammy years, although he is a cool guy.
EDIT: I think he wants 40-50 bucks for a 5th of his Tequila but it's good.
