Newport News police search for man wanted in fatal shooting

Police are searching for a 28-year-old man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting at 45th and Madison avenues this afternoon.
Shortly before 3 p.m. police officers in the area heard gun shots, said Officer Holly McPherson, of the Newport News police. Emergency dispatchers also got reports of shots fired.
When officers arrived in the 4500 block of Madison Ave., they found Lindsey Coleman, 22, of Newport News. He had been shot in the back, McPherson said.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries tonight at 8:35.
Police said Coleman knew the shooter, but the motive for the shooting was not being released.
Chris Ronele McCright is wanted on charges of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a Newport News police news release.
