I went into the DVD library a couple of days ago and came across my collection of "American Gothic", the Shaun Cassidy, Sam Raimi venture from 1995-96. This series was great; and I think if it had aired on Showtime or HBO, it may have stood a chance.

The whole thing takes place in a fictional Southern town called Trinity, South Carolina, which is under the diabolical control of a demonic sheriff named Lucas Buck. I wouldn't necessarily say it was as weird as Twin Peaks, but it was great just the same.

CBS had a whole stable of quirky shows about a decade ago, Northern Exposure and Picket Fences were among those. Any fans out there?

Never heard of it, but I did like Brisco County Jr., with the great Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame.

Yeah that was good, even the UK got it.

Yeah we have American Gothic on DVD. Haven't finished it yet but it does have a Twin Peaks-esque feel to it (big fan of Twin Peaks myself). Have Northern Exposure too, I'd like to watch it when I have time as I missed it when it was on TV.

I agree, Dr. Bloor. I had no idea he had such imagination. I too loved Brisco County, Jr. I really think the fox network made a huge mistake when they placed it on Friday nights, opposite some show that was really popular at the time.

Bruce Campbell is very funny and I could never understand why he didn't go farther. I think he would have been Darrin McGavin's heir apparent to the Night Stalker series, which by the way was totally butchered when that was remade.

"American Gothic" was a good show. Not as nebulous or arcane as "twin Peaks".

The guy that played Lucas Buck did a great job (Gary Cole). The funny thing is that gary Cole does a voice over for a adult animated series on Cartoon Planet or Cartoon Network called "Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law". Its a strange but funny show.

I bet American Gothic would have lasted many seasons if it had better placement. the same damm thing happened to the series "Firefly".

There's nothing more disappointing than falling in love with a series to find out it didn't last a season and has been long dead for years.

Yes, WB, how true, how true. Remember "Lexx"?
