Is there any type of connector to connect a VGA cable to a HDMI socket on my tv? Or am I better off just getting a new graphics card altogether?

Latrine,
It looks as if you can downconvert hdmi to vga, but you can't upconvert the other way around. Hopefully your card will do the trick, you may even be able to have fun with multiple monitors hooked up at once. You can use the dvi output with a vga monitor with a relatively cheap adaptor, if you still have a vga monitor. Man, I remember when VGA monitors first came out--who could possibly need more than 640k memory and 256 colors (wait, that was svga).

OMG, that was my first home pc !

HDMI and DVI both support backwards compatibility, you can run an analog signal thru it and the monitor or TV will be able to interpret it, use the shortest cable you can get away with, and of course you may need to change a few settings for the monitor and adjust resolution if it uses a generic driver (a friend mine uses a VGA to DVI adapter but had to download a monitor driver to do the letterbox resolution). A good website for home audio, video, and wiring in general is Audioholics (http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/dvi-and-hdmi-video-connections), the "realist" in BS of all techno marketing we see so many companies make.
