My dad had a collection of Burroughs' Tarzan series of books, which were published I believe, circa 1914. He had every one of them and loved them immensely. The way he described it to me almost sounded akin to the response the Harry Potter books are receiving in our day.

At any rate, after hearing him talk about how much he loved them, I started reading them myself; his copies, priceless books with a retail price of.......drum roll please...........10 cents!!

The best novel he wrote, however, in my opinion, was not part of the Tarzan series, but a wonderful book entitled, "The Outlaw of Torn"....set in 14th France and England. It told the story of a knight, his upbringing, etc. I first read it when I was 15, and it stood out in my mind. I recently re-read it, and loved it even more.

I highly recommend it, it's not a long read at all, and can be purchased through Amazon.com:cff

I also believe he even tackled the sci -fi genre, I recall seeing a book entitled something like "Moon Girl" or "Mars Girl" or something like that. Never got around to reading that though...:)

It took me around ten years, & a lot of looking, but I have EVERY book he ever wrote now.My ONLY major complant on them, is that several of them have really messed up sentences, like the cave girl, meaning, one has to take a pencil,& draw lines & arrows,to show how to read the page right.Have no knowledge if grammer problems fixed in later editions. Second,if you google up tarzan the censered, you'll find several pages of very politicly incorrect writing, and the altered version, did after 1963,at direct request of his family.Yes,he used the "n" word, and used it a lot.Last minor complant,he really messed up the timeline with korak, son of tarzan. Read a couple and you'll go "what the hell?"Burroughs also made one hell of a big mistake, by ripping so greatly on the german people, and losing out on many sales in that country.
