Accused 'offered victim beer'

The Khayelitsha magistrate's court has heard how a man allegedly dragged his victim, who was known to him, into his shack where he beat her with his fists and a hammer and raped her three times before walking her home and offering to buy her beers along the way.

The court also heard the victim's clothes were so blood-soaked that she had appealed to her attacker to fetch her clean clothes from a friend's house so that she would not have to walk home in the soiled clothes.

The 30-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape and one of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm in connection with the alleged rape, which took place last July.
