Kidson George
Cops are hunting for a jealous man in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend's new beau - an Army Reserve sergeant who had come from a New Jersey military base to attend a Fourth of July bash in Brooklyn, police said.
Kidson George, 26, took two bullets to the chest as he stood on the porch of a friend's Crown Heights home, his blood spraying fellow partygoers and sending screaming children dashing for cover, witnesses said.
"There were a bunch of kids outside on the porch who witnessed the whole thing," said the party's host, a friend of the dead man who asked to be identified by his stage name, D.J. Ice. "There was screaming and yelling. We were out there having our annual Fourth of July barbecue and basically he was shot over a girl."
George, who served in Iraq and Kuwait, died at the scene on New York Ave.
A bystander, an unidentified 27-year-old woman, was hit in the leg by a stray bullet. She was in stable condition Saturday at Kings County Hospital.
George, who has been with the military for nearly eight years, returned from Fort Dix to his hometown of Brooklyn to attend the party, friends said.
The soldier was standing on the porch with his new girlfriend, whom he had been dating about a month, when her former lover - and father of her child - passed in front of the house and started staring, witnesses said.
"He was walking up and down," said Ice. "He saw them together, grabbed his gun and shot him. He said nothing at all; no warning, no anything."
The gunman - who several partygoers said deals drugs in the neighborhood - then dashed into a car and sped from the bloodshed, witnesses said. The girlfriend wasn't hurt.
