I got cut from work early today because it was dead. I walk out the back door digging out my smokes and sitting there like a mirage is one of my all time favorite muscle cars- a 1970 Plymouth Superbird! For you car nuts out there- you know what a rarity these monsters are. I have never even seen one in person until today. (Plymouth only built 1,920)

My jaw just about hit the ground! I said- "No fucking way!!" She was gorgeous guys! Her paint was this beautiful dark shade of wine/cherry red with the black nose...... I never thought I would ever, ever get to see one of these works of art up close....much less drive one!!

I am standing there just admiring this beautiful machine and I hear this voice behine me( Imagine the people from the movie 'Fargo'- accent just like that.

'Shes a beaut aint she?" I turn around and see this older guy maybe in his mid-50's. I say 'Sir that may be the most beautiful goddamn thing I have ever seen!!" He laughed and offered his hand.."Name's Dennis" (You gotta love people from North Dakota- friendlist people on earth. I am the exception...)

We got to talking about the car. He got as a graduation present and has had it ever since. (Dad was a rich farmer in the 60's and this is no bullshit- if you are smart- you can make some serious money farming.)

I asked him if he was from Fargo and he said he had moved here a couple years ago when he sold the farm and retired. I asked where had farmed at and he said 'Napolean" That explained his accent- no shit, everyone from that part of North Dakota talks just the people from the movie "Fargo" I am serious. "Ya, you betcha!!"

I said-"3 of my great-uncles live outside of Napolean!" He asked their last name and I said "Silbernagel." He eyes got a little wide and says "Johnny, Tony and Joe?" I say "yes, but Joe just passed..." He was quiet for a moment says "Little Billy!!"

I was a little taken back.... Turns out this guy is good friends with all of my uncles and knows my grandmother!! I don't remember him at all as it was nearly 30 years ago, but according to him he would come to Grandmas house quite often and I guess had me on his lap a few times! What the fuck right?? Small world...

So back to the car. I say "Dennis- this may seem odd- but this one of my dream cars. Would it seem odd if I asked to sit in it?" He laughed and said 'hell no! Hop in!" he unlocked the door and I got behind the wheel a car I may actually be tempted to give one of nuts for....

It was beautiful guys- mint condition. It is a numbers-matching all original with the factory.... drumroll please.....426 Hemi! God what a fucking dream! I looked up at him and smiled... he understood and said go for it! he handed me the keys and I fired that motherfucker up!

I don't know how many car guys are here- but this was a wet dream come true! Goddamn that was amazing listening to that bitch rumble.......Pistol grip shifter, perfect interior! Totally original in mint condition. I looked at the odometer-- 45,000 miles! I listened to it purr for a minute and then shut it off. i got out, handed him his keys and said "Dennis- you have just made my week!"
He popped the hood for me and let me drool over that beautiful monster.

He asked me what I was driving... i said 'Just waiting for the bus man..." He said, nah i can give you a lift." No fucking way I was going to turn down a ride in a Hemi Superbird! I started to walk to the passenger side and he says' You want to drive it?"

Oh fuck me this was too goddamn good to be true. But I said "Buddy this one of the rarest and most powerful muscle cars ever built... I don't know..." He said, 'Billy, I knew you when you were still shittiing green! Its only a car."

Only a car! Bite your tongue sir! And so today I got to fulfill a dream I have had since I was a little boy. I got to drive a 1970 Plymouth Superbird... with a fucking HEMI!!!!! Apparently God has something terrible planned for me to give me this..... Probably gonna get testicular cancer next month..... but it so worth it! HA!

we hit I-29 to head up north to my place and he told me'Open it up buddy!"

Guys- I am the happiest motherfucker on planet earth today!!! Have you ever stomped on a Hemi before? My penis is still hard!! Not only that but I got to reconnect with an old family friend... Sometimes, not often, but sometimes, life is OK!

This is obviously not Dennis's car, but some of you may not know what a Superbird is. The baddest muscle car ever built next the Hemi 'Cuda. (And yes, they really do go 200 miles an hour.....)

I look at my sunfire now and want to kick it. Those cars have balls though the old plymouths. A friend of ours has a ferrari enzo I drove it I don't think I got the thing out of second gear. But I did drive it in the city. I am not much of a car guy but those old ones and sports cars are nice. My next vehicle sadly will be a mini-van.

Your story almost brought tears to my eye's . You see sometimes there really is a God. When I was a kid in the 60's I had a few of what today would be classics. The best one was my Black (emron) Plymouth Barracuda with a 383 and three dueces.

You had a 383 Barracuda 6 pak? Fucking sweet! That would have been a '67 correct? A convertable 1970 white Hemi 'Cuda sold here in Fargo for $2 MILLION dollars a few years back... man, i was SO born in the wrong decade! I can't imagine living in an era where you could purchase a '69 Charger R/T with a 440 Six Pak for $6,000 and 40 years later sell it and put two of your kids through college with the money... My step dad owned a '71 Challenger with the 440 until a few years back. I was mad as hell when he sold it... He gave me the '75 Trans Am for a birthday gift when I was 14 or 15, but no way he was giving me the Challenger! HA!

A week before he sold it I asked him to sell it to me instead- he said "Sure. You got 30 grand?"
Fucking asshole had a point! hahaha!

I've seen probably 8 or 10 of those. Most of them unrestored, and some of them pretty rough. Believe it or not, in 1990 there was one of those in a little place called Ogden Kansas, a town that is so small it didn't even have a traffic light, right at the east gate of Fort Riley. I the middle of Ogden there was this little used car lot that had some odd stuff, one them being one of those. I don't remember if i was Dodge or Plymouth, but it was the first one I ever saw, and freaked out every time we drive through Ogden, looking at it and pointing. It was an unrestored, rough copy, but I'm sure it's long been restored by now.

There was one of those Superbirds owned by some folks on my street when I was a kid. That same color green too. I just loved the sound it made as it rumbled down the road.
