John Wilkes Booth, American Hero

Hey good friends,

I just finished reading an excellent book by James Swanson, entitled, "Manhunt" which details the hunt for John Wilkes Booth after he assassinated Lincoln.

After reading this book, and I don't want to be misconstrued in any way as an advocate for assassinations, I came to the conclusion that Booth would have joined "chimpout" in a heart beat, if he were alive today. Based upon his diary entries, he knew what would be in store for all of us if the nigger gained full rights and privileges as a citizen; and sure enough, it has come to pass. If he is watching from wherever he may be, he must be laughing in the knowledge that he was right all along.

While I sure Booth hated letting niggers go free, there was more to his killing Lincoln than just the nigger question. It was for the way the South was being treated. ::cnflg

Booth, who liked the idea of slavery and states rights, could not bring himself to fight for the South during the war. On the other hand he chose death upon his capture and was shot. A very odd man.
The idea that the south would rally upon Lincoln's death and struggle on was too late in the game and many believe it was a mistake to kill him before the Africans could be removed from the U.S and sent to some colony.
Lincoln, after all, did not want Niggers around either and was never in favor of putting them next to the white man in society.

Sounds like a good book. I will have to read it.

I agree , it was about the union taking away states rights...slavery was a side issue.. The main issue was state rights and individual property rights, both which have need lost today.

i sometimes wonder how great it would be (living in the south) if they had let us succeed. we would have true freedom. if slavery were abolished, we would at least be able to put those niggers in their place.

Despite what the nigger and the nigger lover belch, many in the South did not own slaves. In fact some slave owners were rich enough to pay for not having to fight. Many of the solders were not slave owners and were fighting for states rights. Plus slavery was really on its way out, niggers were more trouble to keep then they were worth.

You hit the nail on the head. It's a shame the slavery cause is being taught in our schools.
At Clarksville, TN , a common southern soilder was captured by union troops. One of the men asked the confederate, "Why are you fighting this war''? He replied " I am fighting because you are down here".

Exactly. For that alone, I can't call John Wilkes Booth a hero...he should have done way earlier or way later, just picked the worst damn time.

There was a real interesting article in National Vanguard a few months back about Lincoln and his plans for the niggers. I'm not fan of Lincoln, but I wonder how the history of niggers in North America would be different if he weren't killed.......
