Joaquin Phoenix appears to be getting into the act of being a petulant hip-hop star.
During a performance at the LIV nightclub in Miami Beach early Thursday morning—after keeping the audience waiting for four hours—he began swearing, then jumped off the stage to go after an apparent heckler. Security guards dragged him back on stage and escorted him away, according to multiple media reports.
Before the incident, Phoenix had come on stage at the nightclub in the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel before 2 a.m., smoking a cigarette and wearing a disheveled dark suit, sneakers and his scraggly long hair and beard. Hundreds of people had packed the club to hear him.
He began rapping to a beat played by the DJ and nodding to the music, but the lyrics were mostly unintelligible.
It's unknown whether the confrontation was real or a put-on, but actor Casey Affleck, who is Phoenix's brother-in-law, recorded the performance on video.
