Ok, so I've spilt some coffee on my laptop earlier today, and it has died on me. Any chance it will be revived once the coffee dries off? Oh and it didn't have any sugar in it - don't know if that makes a difference or not.

If there were no cream or sugar in the coffee your machine should be ok once it dries.
Cream and sugar (or worse; salt) = death to a comprutah.

I used to fix these by putting them open and upside down on a table overnight with the battery removed and power disconnected.
Sometimes they will come back.

I've done the same thing Hekate.
My husband, the comedian, says to put it in a bucket of soapy water and scrub it with a stiff brush.....I dont know why I bother talking to him.

Flush out with DISTILLED WATER ONLY from a spray bottle, blow out excess water with a can of compressed gas, then set aside to dry. I've saved many a keyboard that way.

I was going to say use alcohol My dad & sister both saved their cell phones after dropping them in the water.
Just don't turn them back on until they are absolutely dry. Alcohol will help evaporate water.

Just wanted to give my opinion,
There is a spray for electronics, it is a cleaner for chip boards, if possible,
the lap should be taken down so that the entire mobo can be seen, and should be sprayed with this cleaner, you should never allow anything but water
to dry on a board. You will find that there is a chance that the sugar or coffee
can start to corrode the solder on the board, this will not happen quick but in time the board could stop working from corrosion.

I spilled water on my laptop about a year ago and it died. After reading this thread, I got it out and gave it another try. It came right on.
Now, however, I cannot remember my password for Windows! AAAGGHHHHHH!

On another computer go to ophcrack (http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/) to download a disc to retrieve your password (you may need to enter your bios and change the boot order to CD/DVD). It doesn't work on encrypted hard drives or if your password has more than 14 letters and characters.
