I've had a call from my insurance company telling me my laptop is beyond repair. They have offered me this one (http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1302461428.121015239 5@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdfadedmljjhejcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=1&sm=0&tm=0&sku=056078&category_oid=) as a replacement. I'd just like a second opinion. I've also asked for my hard disc back and the buggers are charging me £30 for that

Toshibas are okay and the spec is pretty good. As for your HD, I would ask for the complete thing back and sell it to a local computer shop for them to refurbish and sell and get your drive back from them.

Thats a nice looking laptop.
3gb of ram and a dual core should go nicely.
Ive had a few toshibas and they have been great.

Its a much better spec than my original one (Compaq Presario 6000). I've had that one for less than a year and its been nothing but trouble - the hd packed up after only a couple of weeks.
At the mo I've been using an old Acer laptop which is about 3 years old and has problems with the power supply. It won't run on ac power so I have to keep charging up the battery just to use it which is a right pain, especially if I'm in the middle of doing some photoshopping and the damn thing starts beeping :trll
I've also got a new pc which I've connected to my tv as a media centre (I'm on that at the mo as I can't be arsed with that laptop right now). But that means that I can't watch tv at the same time. Oh well, hopefully I should get that new one soon.

I used to repair Laptops and the Toshibas were better built and more stable than the Dell or compaq.

That's pretty damn good, the 3gb of ram will allow you to use Vista pretty well. I'd advise to download Seagate's tools (http://download.seagate.com/seatools/registration.nsf/eula/desktop), burn it to a disc, and one of the tools they have is a low level format for your old hard drive (this will wipe it completely though it may take it a few hours) to cover your ass in the jolly ol' UK. -cheers

Toshiba is a good make. I do think you will be pleased with it. I have had mine for nearly 6 years and its still going strong.
