As for the U.S. economy, Roach said he feared stimulus measures may have little impact on growth given that the slowdown is being driven by a massive retrenchment of overly indebted consumers. Instead, he argued, the bottom line is that countries with massive current account deficits, such as the United States, must cut consumption, while countries with massive surpluses, like China, must boost consumption. - source (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/davos-speakers-say-stimulus-plans/story.aspx?guid=%7BB42034A2%2D51A5%2D44F3%2D891D%2 D85A32E8FC976%7D)

Democrats "seem to have the idea that we can borrow and spend our way back to prosperity," Boehner said in a radio interview Monday. - source (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/pushing-stimulus-obama-asks-gop/story.aspx?guid=%7BB08A65E1%2DC833%2D4CFB%2DBCBB%2 D7753DBEF5FB6%7D)

"By contrast, Obama is spending enormously more money on education than Bush - it intensifies the federal role but does not change the substance of what schools are doing. It's the reverse of Bush." - source (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/28/MNG415I0V2.DTL)

Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, sought to strip out all the spending from the legislation before final passage, arguing that the entire cost of the bill would merely add to soaring federal deficits. "Where are we going to get the money," he asked, but his attempt failed overwhelmingly, 302-134. - source (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D960EGQ81&show_article=1)

And the dirty little secret is that this country willingly sold it's soul to China in exchange for cheap goods produced by slave labor. A country that can't manufacture it's own goods is doomed. Information and service economies cannot sustain themselves.

That's exactly right. A country which produces less wealth that it consumes is fucked. Wealth creation has been replaced with "service" resulting in a fake economy sustained by foreign loans and credit issues in the dozens of trillions based on nothing.

Bingo.

We no longer produce anything of value, except for good thoughts and ideas which are then sold to the highest overseas bidder to be produced cheaply.

The labor unions had the largest hand in it. Once, unions had their place, when employers trapped their employees in horrible conditions with no way out. That ship has long since sailed. It's time to abolish labor unions once and for all in this country. They serve no purpose other than to increase the wealth of the con-artists in charge of them, and to line the pockets of the scum-sucking shitbag politicians that coddle them.

This country MUST get back on the path to being a well-rounded economy that includes manufacturing, service, information, science, technology, and infrastructure.

The simple fact of the matter is that the government cannot do this. The best thing the government could do would be to say "Fuck it." shut down for two years. Take in no taxes, and spend no money. The flood of capital into the private sector would jumpstart us back to the forefront where we belonged before we so epic-ly FAILed to see the proverbial writing on the wall.

The talk about a "service and information" economy is the same thing as saying a "puppies and unicorn farts" economy. It's horseshit, plain and simple.

It's always been my understanding that labor unions were originally formed because of safety issues, such as the Triangle fire in New York.

Somehow over the years, unions such as the UAW shifted their agenda from safety to "decent" wages. A definition which now means getting paid $80 an hour to tighten screws. No wonder our auto manufacturers can't compete with China or Japan.

Minimum wage laws are another thing that needs to go. If someone needs a job and is willing to work for $4 an hour, then why should the government forbid this? Companies in China aren't burdened with these types of laws, that's why we can't compete. And don't even get me started on affirmative action.
