OK, so I've had my goldfish for a couple of months, and I've been keeping them in a 1 ft diameter round tank. The other day we got given a 2 ft tank and I've now moved them there. But they seem a bit bewildered and tend to stay in a corner of the tank. I've put in all the same decorations and gravel, plus a couple of new ones (and more gravel). I even transferred about half of the water from the old tank. Is this because they are a bit overwhelmed in a much larger tank?
Also I'm thinking of getting some Black Moor (nigger :lol) fish. Will they get on?

I don't know about goldfish, but merely rearranging the rocks in my tank confuses my african cichlids. They are very territorial and will try to kill even much larger 'intruders' so I have to rearrange all their stuff and even introduce new objects when I introduce a new fish or it is toast.
Not only will your black moor not be threatened by the goldfish, it may school with them.

It sounds like they are defective. Flush them down the toilet and get new fish!
Just kidding!! :lol
Fish do that - They'll get used to the new tank and act normal soon.

I found one of my nigger fish floating belly up. I don't know where the other one is but it seems to have gone into hiding. Either that, or hubby found it and disposed of it without telling me - I can't phone him at work to find out. The other fish seem ok. I went to the pet shop to get some stuff called Disease Safe to put in the water and the man also gave me a replacement nigger fish fo free. So I have no idea what happened to it, but I thought I would put that stuff in the water to make sure they aren't sick.

Table salt is the miracle cure for tank fish. Make sure it is pure salt and not iodized salt or anything (or seasoned salt :lol) and put one level teaspoonful per 10 gallons. Fixes most things that go wrong with tropical fish.
Oh, and the nigger fish is just being lazy and refusing to work. Give it a good whuppin and it should go back to picking cotton.

You need to get some African Rock Fish and a bigger tank! I hear they fit perfectly with a bunch of piranha.
Don't you go giving Mr Jakscoon funny ideas, now. He's already pestering me for a bearded dragon :lol

3 more dead today, only 2 left now. I've emptied out the tank and transferred them to the small bowl with clean water and I did put a teaspoon of salt as well as that disease safe stuff. I did see one of them dying, it just seemed to get weaker and weaker and then gave up the ghost. I'm going out in a mo to get a water testing kit, I've saved a small jar of the water just to check it.
The cats are not interested in the dead ones, I showed them when I fished them out and they just walked away :lol

Oh mine do the same. I've only got one fish left now :( I don't even know if that one is going to be ok. I've cleaned out the tank and I'm filling it up again.

Your problem is most likely ammonia in the water from decaying fish urine and fish turds. There can be an ammonia spike when setting up a new aquarium, actually it is quite common. You should just let the dirty tank sit there a few weeks and let the bacteria stabilize. Then you change half the water and get new fish. (Too late if you already cleaned it out...)
