After watching the first Dakar Rally held in South America (Argentina, Chile and Peru) I must say how different it was from africa. The scenery was better, the terrain was more varied and interesting, and unlike africa, here the locals turned out IN FORCE to watch and support the rally (and help the competitors) whereas in africa, the competitors were hijacked, stolen from and sometimes even bombed and killed by landmines left from some bongo party. This is easily the best Dakar I've ever watched, and to be honest, I really can't see why they would ever want to return to africa ever again.
