Any other fans of What If? type alternative history? I'm currently reading Apocalypse 2000 by Peter Jay and Michael Stewart. The book was written back in 1989, and its a novel, but a lot of the stuff does ring true - economic mismanagement, the rise of Islamic terrorism, and voters turning to the far right, both in Europe and in the States
I don't want to give too much away, in case you guys decide to read this, but the chapter on the USA in the mid 90's was a blast. In the novel, a Democrat gets elected in the 88 Election to take over from Reagan. He totally fucks up the economy and so in the following election, an extremely right-wing Republican president gets voted in. One of the first things he does is abolish welfare and food stamps :what :al :rofl
Of course, the niggers go wild and TNB escalates -nigbongo -nigbongo -nigbongo
Can't wait to read the rest of it :lol

In reality, Bill Clinton (the democrat) built up a huge budget surplus...plus, welfare took a huge hit under the Clinton administration. Food stamps are still all over the place here today, under the Bush administration. It seems to me that voters in the U.K. and the States have both gone far LEFT. I think the Obongo administration will be a real disappointment to niggers here. Obongo says what he needs to get where he needs to be. Niggers here think he will dismiss their mortgage, rent and gas payments, plus increase their welfare payments. They're in for a rude awakening.

OH that sounds like a good read! I just love alternative history and historical fiction. There's always such wonderful possibilities in the thought of "what if it happened like this?"...it either inspires one to create that new reality, or it makes one glad for the reality they live in.

I'm a huge fan of Harry Turtledove. One of my most favorite books is "Guns of the South".

"The Videssos Cycle" Remains in my top 5 "favorites sagas of all time" after 20 years and probably a thousand books. Never read "Guns of the South" is it a prequel or sequel to "How few Remain"?

It is neither. It's a stand alone book. The Confederacy does gain independence in this book also, but it's obtained by some 'new technology' they're introduced to.
I've never read "The Videssos Cycle." I will one day. I only have 1 more book to read in the series that "How Few Remain" spawned.
"The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth is excellent.
It's alternative history - Charles Lindbergh becomes president in 1940.
I loved this book and recommend it.

Back to Harry Turtledove. This thread prompted me to buy the last book in the series started by the book How Few Remain or known as Timeline 191http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_191
The last book is called In at the Death.

One of these days, I'll have to pick up "The Plot Against America". I have a thick skin....
The very first Alt History book I ever read was called "If the South Won Gettysburg". The cover piqued my interest.

That book led to my second book, "Guns of the South". Ahhhh, if only it was true.
