Last night I went to see the reunion tour for the Stone Temple Pilots. I was able to get tickets for the second show, not the first. Here is a synopsis for your pleasure.
Opening band: Billy Boy on Poison
May have just been "Hey we think we are like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and maybe even The Adicts, and we are going to play generic punk rock while talking about how much we sound like the stars of yesteryear." In fact, the douchebag of a lead singer decided it was a good idea to start naming off important musicians from the Detroit area, and he got Iggy Pop's name wrong. He got booed and yelled at, and my girlfriend and I gave him some nice middle fingers while heckling. They really thought they were like David Bowie. Terrible performance of a terrible band. Each song was like the next, and everything was turned up way too loud. Go back to Los Angeles you faggots, where apparently they have no taste in music.
Intermission: In between the first band leaving and STP coming on stage, it took STP one hour and fifteen minutes to get on stage. That is pretty bad. That was the longest I have ever waited for an act to get on stage, and I didn't really appreciate it, and neither did anyone else.
The Stone Temple Pilots:
Apparently, Scott Weiland scored some good stuff. He was spot on, which from what I have heard in the past is usually a 50/50 chance for him to sound good. In his typical fashion, he wore black pinstripe pants, a leather jacket, and a fedora. Classic. They played a long set with all of everybody's favorites and a few other's mixed in. The megaphone was used to it's fullest extent. The boys sounded good, with the guitars being turned up a little too loud which distracted from Scott's voice, but other than that a great performance. The bass volume and performance was wonderful, he even broke out with the drummer into a great rendition of the KISS song "Detroit Rock City!"
I am glad I got to see the show, even if the first band was a steaming pile of feces, and we did have to wait over an hour for STP to come on stage. If anyone gets a chance to see them, I would take the chance as I don't know how much longer those guys can work together.
