Niggerless Parsons

I went to Weatherpersons to try the free wifi. First time I've tried it from somewhere other than home
I logged on OK, but was unable to access the Internet. First it said to check LAN connections and other stuff.
Later it was saying that a remote firewall was responsible, and that my firewall was not responsible.
My laptop has never done this from a public place before, is there some box I need to tick somewhere
I'm no PC buff, any ideas how to rectify this ?
