Being a real cricket fan, I was wondering if anyone else here enjoys it? If you do, here's the place to chat about it!

Despite the fact that only 10 countries play continuously at the top level, the game is played in well over 100 countries, the vast majority of whom are capable of fielding a national team.

If you've played baseball before, here's some sites to help explain how the game goes.

Other than that, if there's anything you want to know, don't be afraid to ask!

I love cricket!

I've never been so keen on the shorter forms of the game but I love watching test matches (it's the only way to make ironing tolerable lol).

I read those rule thingies you posted on it and am still fucking lost on the game:wtf:lol I watched it a few years back when Canada actually sent a team to the world cup of cricket (I think they lost every game and every player was originally from England, India, or Pakistan)

One day I will get it................. maybe?:ape

Yep i figure it cant be worse than the last time round. Plus KP has made a refreshing change as captain. He looks more likely to risk losing the game in order to win it than dig in and settle for a draw

What a month it's been, South Africa won their first test series in Australia and KP lost the England captaincy, whilst England lost their coach too!

Thank you Fireblade14 for the link to an explanation of the grand sport of Cricket! I will read it over, and l I hope to understand how it is played. I enjoy reading of, and understanding the culture, and sport, etc., of other humans.
I have often thought that a Cricket bat made of steel would be a plus when dealing with the violent nigger beast when it attacks, the better to disable it before it could do harm to a human, or an animal other than its own species. The flatness would connect very well with any portion of the head during an attack, and possibly save lives.

I've never played cricket, but would love to try my hand at it. Knowing me though, I'd probably just wind up running around like a crazy person smacking people in the ass with the cricket paddle and yelling "HOME RUN!!!"

Funny you should say that, they did in fact try an aluminum bat at one stage in the early '80's but they were soon banned, made a horrible "plonk" sound when the ball hit it.

Time for the Twenty/20 world cup!

Group A
India (defending champs)
Bangladesh
*Ireland

Group B
England (hosts)
Pakistan
*The Netherlands

Group C
Australia
Sri Lanka
West Indies

Group D
New Zealand
South Africa
*Scotland

(All the teams marked with a '*' had to go through a qualifying tournament.)

In the first round, the teams will play the other two teams in their group. Then after that round, the top 2 teams from each group go into a 2nd round robin called the "Super 8s" where they will play the top 2 teams from all the other groups, but NOT the team that was in their group in the 1st round (result is carried over), after that, top 4 from the super 8s go to semis, then a final.

Twenty/20 is the new fast paced, action filled format of the sport, it's a lot shorter, and each game is only +/- 3 hrs long.

So, despite an embarassing defeat to the Netherlands, England still get through to the second round.

Funniest bit is Ireland got to the second round and Australia didn't. *giggles*

I love my cricket! It's not a game, it's a way of life.

Used to be a fairly handy batsman in my day too. In fact, my opening partner from school went on to a nearly 20 year pro career with the county of Middlesex :cheers

I didn't even know the Netherlands was a cricket country. Although I read in the paper they are also ranked number 1 in soccer at the moment too.

Well, looks like the Dutch are out :(

But yeah NA, they can still say they won more games than Australia :P

So yeah, it's down to the super 8's now, these are the teams still in it.

India
Ireland thumbsup
England
Pakistan :down (They put the Dutch out)
West Indies
Sri Lanka
South Africa
New Zealand

Would've loved to have seen the Dutch there, but yeah, so now I'm following Ireland instead, they seem to have a way of causing misery to test sides. :thup

JT, that's pretty cool about your former opening partner.

Amy's predictions:

India and South Africa to qualify for the semis from one group and New Zealand and Pakistan from the other.

Pakistan will be total shit, lose one, win one (barely) then be absolutely amazing in the last game to scam a semifinal spot.

England will beat the Windies who have been shit against us all summer, but lose to the other two.

COME ON YOU ENGLAND!

Bring back Bell at No 3, move Bhopara to 5 or drop him and bring in Robert Key.

I hope that if kevin pietersen isn't properly fit they wont make him play like they did in the last one. Ian Bell has been out of form for ages, not sure we should be bringing him back at this point. But the middle of an ashes series is not the time to bring in unblooded replacements.

Bring back graham hick, i say :D
