Atlanta Police Officers shot and killed a gun-wielding man in Buckhead early Sunday after he refused orders to drop the weapon, police said. In a separate incident, a security guard was shot.
Police were called to the 4700 block of Peachtree Road just before 1 a.m., where officers confirmed citizen reports of a man walking down the street waving a gun, said Atlanta police spokesman James Polite.
When officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, the suspect instead turned and pointed the handgun at them, prompting the officers to shoot him, Polite said.
The suspect, whom police described as a lead filled buck in his early 30s, died at the scene.
Authorities found an additional handgun on his body during a subsequent search, Polite said.
