Rate the new album in a best of 10. 10 Being the best.
I have had so many people come up to me lately and say this is a good album.
It is.
It's probably not as good as anything in their hey day but I think it's better than the Black Album. Some songs I can't get out of my head, and after 30 good listens, I still can't get enough.
Even Unforgiven 3 is growing on me, which I absolutely hated at first. I can't stand pussy metal or half ass shit when it comes to metal. I really can't believe how good this album is. I thought Metallica was done. They were never my favorite band, but in the day they were the shit.
I thought I would start a second thread on this to see what people think now that it has been out a couple weeks. There may only be a handful of metal fans on here but feel free to voice your opinion.
This has been a good year for new metal releases. Kind of reminds me of '87-'88 in a way. Tons of shit came out then.
As far as any given metal album, I give it a 6 1/2- 7 out of ten.
My Favorite song so far is All Nightmare Long.

I say 4. When I listened to it it just seemed like an hour of random grooves...

Hate to be a dick, but I never liked metallica at all. They are all stellar musicians, I just never got into the music. I guess old hippies just can't change.
Sorry to be confrontational n stuff (i've had a bit too drink lol), but which one of them is a stellar musician? Kirk hammet was alright in exodus, the one that moves like a chimp was an OK bassist in suicidal tendencies, and he's still shite compared to the one that died. The singer is cack, the drummer is the bare minimum you would expect from a metronome.
My boyfriend got me into slayer and kreator when i was like 13, metallica always seemed totally impotent compared to that

The material on this album is ok.
But ...Rick Rubin needs to stick to sucking nigger cock and producing rap.
This is one of the most poorly mixed, miked, whatever the fuck albums Ive ever heard.
Metallica should have come over to my garage and recorded this album
on my old four track casette deck. It would have sounded ten times better.

Sorry to hear you guys didn't like it. I guess everyone has different tastes. As far as metal goes, I can't get into the death metal shit. I am more old school metal.
They may be assholes but as far as the talent issue goes, there is no question that And Justice is a difficult album to play except for One.
Sorry to kick you Metallica fans in the teeth but I moved my metallic allegience to Dave Mustaine long time ago.
I always liked Megadeth better than them. Almost every album rocked from Peace Sells all the way through to Countdown To Extinction. After Countdown they had a few songs i liked but nothing like their previous albums.
I actually met Dave once in St. Louis and he was cool. I thought he was going to be a dick but he wasn't. He even let me take a pic with him and he was all smiles in it.thumbsup
If you read the lyrics Dave has written, you can tell he is intelligent and insightful as fuck.

This new Metallica album rates a 2 at best, and that's only because of the song 'My Apocolypse'.You have to wait half way through the song on any of the other tracks to hear anything that sounds even remotely like old Metallica, that's too long to wait, and it doesn't come at all on some tracks like 'Cyanyde',which sounds like a distorted Beatles tune. Not that there's anything wrong with the Beatles,it just doesn't belong on a Metallica album.Metallica IS done! They need to start drinking again, maybe then they'll get thier sound back.I think the reason everyone is racing to fellate Metallica for this new steaming load,is so they don't have to say Metallica sucks any more, but sadly, they still suck! Until they start releasing more material like they used to,they still suck.Stick with the Megadeth! They still rock!

I like pretty much all the metallica albums up until St. Anger. When that came out, I just stopped listening to any of their new stuff.
Well, take into consideration that they are near 50 year old men/ I give this a 6 out of 10. I really like it and it came as a big surprise after St. Anger. It's not as good as their old stuff but definitely listenable.

Didnt Rubin produce the Americana Johnny Cash records?

Pete Townshend is 137 years old and he could still wail on any metallica guitarist.
I don't know man. I respectfully disagree. I don't mind The Who but Kirk Hammett is one of the best guitarists around, top 5 for sure.

I was talking about inflicting physical damage on another person with a telecaster, lol.
In that case,I would agree, especially since James quit drinking! But as far as musicianship goes, even though thier last few albums sucked,I'd still have to say Townsend could never even try to touch Damage Inc.,or Trapped Under Ice,well,we'll say basically anything from 'Kill 'Em All' through 'Master Of Puppets' at least, which was truly thier best work. :rock

I don't know about the generation gap as far as I'm concerned,I'm 39.I love the Who,John Entwistle being my favorite in the band, and the others you named, especially AC/DC,but I also like old Metallica and Megadeth, and things of that nature as well.

I respect your opinion. If you don't like it, that's cool. But as far as Megadeth goes, their last album was the worst ever. There were some good ones on The System Has Failed though.
I think any band that had rocked will ultimately turn to shit or never be as good as they were. The reasons for this is money and/or love.
Look at any decent band. They all have the same fate. Strife and hardship makes for good music. It's a release.

True, almost any band has never released consistantly great material, but it's usually either short lived or the band splits afterward.Too bad they couldn't have went out before they tanked.Maybe if they split they might produce some good solo material.
